WHITENING - PATIENT INFORMATION AND PROTOCOL

PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING TO USE THE BLEACHING KIT

Whitening gel provides an alternative, more conservative way (compared to crowns, veneers etc) of treating dark, discoloured teeth. This would include discolourations caused by ageing, food and drink, tobacco stains and naturally 'yellow teeth.

As restorative materials (fillings, crowns) will not whiten, we recommend whitening teeth prior to filling placement so one can match the new lighter shade.

Precautions

  • As a safety precaution, whitening gel is NOT to be used during pregnancy.
  •
  • There are some indications that peroxides could potentiate the actions of some carcinogens. As a precaution, patients who use tobacco or alcohol products should not do so while bleaching.

  • If the patient has a known allergy or chemical sensitivity to peroxides, carbopol or glycerine, whitening gel is NOT to be used.

  • Remove tray if sensitivity occurs. Discontinue treatment if soreness persists.

  • This gel is NOT to be injected. Dispose of syringes carefully when treatment is complete.

  • Material should be refrigerated to maintain shelf life. Keep out of heat and/or direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

WHITENING - INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  1. Clean teeth thoroughly as usual with normal toothpaste
  2. Apply whitening gel to the tray exactly as described and shown to you by your dentist, taking care not to use too much. If a lot of gel comes out of the tray on fitting it around the teeth, then reduce the amount used. The tray acts as a reservoir for the gel around the tooth.
  3. Only use a small a "blob' of gel in the tray, which fits over front of the tooth as demonstrated by your dentist in the practice. Remove excess material (if present) with a cotton bud.
  4. Apply gel to the upper and lower trays as directed (approx. 7-14 days.)
But they can be done separately if preferred.
  5. If you experience any gum soreness, tooth sensitivity or any problem that causes concern, please remove the tray immediately and clean your teeth thoroughly. Contact the practice as soon as practicable for further help and advice.
  6. Use the gel as directed ONLY. Use the gel either on retiring (i,e overnight) or 4-5 hours in the evening, but do not eat or drink anything.
  7. On removing the tray after the allotted time, clean your teeth thoroughly and rinse the remaining gel out of the tray with warm water.
  8. Keep the syringes out of children's reach; preferably somewhere cool (ideally the fridge). Dispose of empty syringes carefully.
